Step 3 – Examination by the JPO
After the trademark application is filed, it will be examined by the Japan Patent Office (JPO). The examination process typically takes six to twelve months. If an Office Action is issued, a licensed Japanese Patent Attorney will carefully review it and recommend the suitable course of action.

Step 4 – Registration
If the application is approved, the JPO will issue a Notice of Allowance. However, the trademark is not officially registered at that stage. Registration is completed only after the official registration fee is paid within the deadline (30 days). We can also handle the payment procedure on your behalf. Once registered, the trademark is valid for ten years from the registration date and can be renewed indefinitely.
